Customer Reviews

Best flosser ever, lasts over a decade!I love this flosser, it helps me reach my back teeth easily. I have a small mouth and do not have any trouble using this. I like to wrap around the button a couple times, thread the prongs, wrap around the button again, around the back of the flosser, and around the button another time or two. This technique ensures enough tension remains to really get at my gums. I had one of these flossers for over 10 years before one of the prongs snapped, was super pleased to find this 3-pack on Amazon.5Great! Glad my old floss handle broke so I got to try this brand.I'm actually glad my old flosser broke now!Well I mean, sort of, but because it broke I decided to switch brands and try this one.It fits my hand and mouth much better than my old one did, a different brand...I wish I'd kept the broken parts now instead of tossing (hey I tried super gluing it back together but it just broke again and a plastic handle snapping in your mouth is freaky haha) so that I could compare to this GUM brand one and see what's so different. So the handle is small, if you have large hands, mine are average, maybe that wouldn't suit you.I found the plastic handle, the prongs etc all smooth, no rough edges. Very comfortable and easy to use,I use this style of flosser for a couple reasons, one it's much more environmentally friendly to have a reusable handle than to toss those little single use toothpicker flossers..seriously people, have some respect...you see those things littering the ground now as much as cigarette butts GROSS.Anyways the other reason is that I can never get the hang of flossing with just the floss around my fingers, I end up hurting the corners of my mouth with the floss and pinching my fingers and doing a poor flossing job. So once I found this style floss handle it was a game changer. It orients the floss to a better angle for proper flossing..look it's hard to describe but if you hate flossing but know you should do it, try this handle.I also find that the floss slips on the little lock wind thingy BUT only if you wind it around one way. I ensure mine doesn't slip by winding around the lock post, then around the handle of the flosser itself and then winding the OPPOSITE way around the little post again. and if there's floss left I wrap around the handle and post again.I just get in the habit of leaving a few extra inches of floss to wrap extra.I thought a 3 pack seemed funny at first but then I realized now I can leave one in the car, yay (and still have a spare)! For those rare occasions eating out somewhere or whatever and you need to floss, this will be great. I don't like toothpicks so handle floss is the best for teeth cleaning.I'll update in the future as to how long they hold up.My older style flosser, I can't really complain I'd get 3 years use or there abouts from them...which is pretty good.I hope to get the same or better from these.5Easy to Use, Great for Kids Who are Learning How to FlossI purchased these Floss Holders for my kids because the small disposable flossers they were using were getting pricey, and I was getting frustrated with the amount of waste generated by the little one time use flossers. The Gum Flossers work great at holding the floss for my kids. It takes a few seconds to load on some floss, are totally reusable, and are easy enough for my two kids to use. The plastic is a little flexible, but has a mostly rigid feel about it. I can imagine if someone was too rough with the prongs that they could potentially snap - although that has not happened with us. At this price for a pack of three, it was totally worth it for us. Floss is usually very cheap, and in comparison with buying a bag of flossers, even if these broke, it would be cheaper than having to purchase flossers for two kids all the time. Overall, a very good purchase for us.5Great product to help floss while reducing wasteWhen I learned that many dental flosses are made with a Teflon-like coating, I decided to switch to a natural product that does not contain potentially dangerous chemicals. These floss handles were purchased to hold the new dental floss to replace the disposable flossers that I was using in the past. These floss handles are very easy to use and I also like that they are reusable and I am able to also reduce my plastic waste. Great product. I recommend.5Less waste than disposable flossers but could be improvedI bought the GUM flossmate to potentially switch from using the disposable flossers and thus reduce on plastic waste.Positives:It definitely helps reduce amount of plastic waste I produce everyday very quickly, when you consider disposing of around 2 flossers per day. It is relatively easy to cleanNegatives:It is aggravating when you do not set it up properly and slack forms between the forks and has to be redone. So it definitely adds a little bit of time to be more precise which is a major negative when you consider most people want to be done quickly whendealing with mouth care.It uses around same amount of floss that would have been used by hand, which is around 12" which is how much they recommend in picture. The flosser is also bulky which just takes some time getting used to.Would recommend if using disposable flossers just to reduce their usage but perhaps there are better designs out there.Edit: it is probably easier just to use regular floss3Doesn't save you floss - thread gets loose I had picked this up in hopes of using less floss than just using my fingers- but it takes almost as much by the time you wrap it around everywhere. I also had issues keeping the thread tight in the holder (after a few teeth, it gets loose enough to cause problems as I have some teeth that are hard to floss between - very tight). Not a terrible product, but not good enough for me to use vs my hands. 3Works really well. All the things I was worried about before buying were not an issue in practice. These made me start flossing again. I HATE flossing. Like, a lot. Those little flosser sticks help because they make it easier and don't hurt your fingers but I wasn't comfortable with the waste. Other reusable flossers are too big. These work very very well. They are just the right shape, fit right into your mouth, and make flossing quick and easy. Literally life changing because I'm not sure I could have stuck with flossing without them. The handle looks short from the picture but it's actually long enough. I was worried about that before buying but it hasn't been an issue at all. It's longer than it looks. The only issue I ever have is that if I don't cut the floss long enough, it starts to slide along the knob, making the floss loose after it gets stuck between tighter teeth. The solution to this is to make sure that the floss is long enough so you can leave a 1in tail on either side, and do two wraps around the knob on either side. That allows you to get the floss on tighter. Also, squeeze the two prongs together a bit when you first put the floss on, that way, even if it loosens a bit as you go, it stays taught. I was worried this would break the flosser but no, I've been using it for 5mo nightly and it shows no signs of stress as a result.I'm a hard case, my teeth are very tight and my mouth is tiny, so flossing is difficult. If it works for me, it'll almost definitely work for you.5Not as good as the originalIf there was no other floss holder alternative, I'd give this a higher review, but it's just not as good as the original. It's a lot shorter so harder to hold, does not hold as much floss on the spool, and although it seems to have deeper grooves (which is why I bought this over the original), it does not hold floss any better than the original. Floss would occasionally slip off the original floss holder just like this model. I wish I bought the original version instead.1Best Flossing ToolI've used these flossing tools for years. I avoided flossing for the longest time because it was very difficult. These make it simple, like it should be. Not to big, easy to maneuver inside your mouth and helps the user easily reach the hardest of places. Now, I floss almost every day and my regular checkups at the dentist have improved dramatically over the years. I'm almost 60 and still have all my teeth! :) 6 month cleanings are a breeze for my hygienist and easy for me, too. I even look forward to the visits. With the 3-pack I can keep a Flossmate in the bathroom, in my office and in my car so I have one wherever I go.Highly recommended.5Works great if you follow these additional instructionsIt works great IF you follow these important instructions which are not on the package and which took me awhile to learn.1. Wrap the floss tape around the button four times VERY tightly.2. After threading the floss according to the directions squeeze the prongs to add more tension on the floss when you wrap it around the button VERY tightly four times. Then release the prongs. You will know you have wrapped it tightly enough when the prongs remain closer together after you release the tension. The instructions on the package fail to emphasize how important it is to wrap the floss VERY tightly.Floss can be slippery in your fingers. You may have to try multiple wraps to get the tension strong enough to hold the floss tightly when you push it between your teeth. Also, when you position the floss over the teeth, push down on one of the prongs to help the floss pop into place between closely spaced or touching teeth. You can also push up on a prong to pop the floss out from between the closely packed teeth. When done right you will feel a satisfying "pop" as the floss slips into place.I am one of those people who never could learn to floss with the finger-wrap method. Now I floss every day and, yes, enjoy the process. The Flossmate makes flossing almost fun. Almost.5Much larger than disposal flossersThese are twice the size of the disposal flossers and too big to fit in my mouth. Didn t work at all.1I'm a daily flosser and really enjoy clean teeth HAHA! I had no idea this would be better than my hands. Yet, it is. Had no idea I'd want nor need something like this, until I decided to make my flossing experience easier. These do.Works perfectly with POH floss. I find I don't use anywhere near as much floss. So helps save a little money too. Very much recommend these. My teeth are actually cleaner now after using these to floss. I can hear the 'squeek' of clean when using. My dentist had the best comments for me too. My teeth were so clean, my appt was a breeze. (And I am apt to cavities in between my teeth due to small spacing. Not this time!) 5Work well and are economical; a better but more expensive product existsI have some periodontal disease and the dentist said I really need to floss between my rear molars, which I cannot reach with regular floss. I tried this and Gumchucks. Both work, but the Gumchucks are a little more effective for me. The Gumchucks allow me to floss between the teeth I cannot reach, and allows me to angle the two handles any way I need to in order to get the floss where it needs to go. These GUM floss handles are a Y shape and I cannot vary the angle of the handles, just of the floss. I can and do use the GUM flossmate handle successfully, and would have continued to use them if I did not also have the Gumchucks (I'll keep one of these GUM flossmate handles at work, though). I will say that the GUM flossmate handles are less expensive over the long run since you use regular floss, where you have to continuously buy replacement tips (loaded with floss) for the Gumchucks.4Fingers are free My father has a floss band similar to these, and he enjoys how easily it works. I was eager to find something that would incentivize me to floss more and thought this might be a good purchase. This product is OK. The plastic seems very brittle and I could see how, with daily use, they would break after awhile. It is also hard to keep enough tension on the device to ensure the floss gets between your teeth. My main objection to these is the pressure required to get the floss between your teeth. You have to press quite a bit to get pass the small space between your teeth. This means the floss with 'slam' into your gums and hurt. I've stopped using this product and have come to the conclusion that I have fingers, which are free, that can do the same job as these. 2Great product. This makes flossing a lot easier! I actually avoiding flossing because it was so time consuming. Since this product arrived I have been flossing twice a day :D 4 stars because sometimes the floss comes off completely - so I have had to learn to apply it in an exact way to get it to stay put. When it does, though, it works beautifully! High quality plastic. And reusable, so better for the environment.4These things were just about perfect. I realize that having something last for 15+ ...This replaces a two Butler Flossmates that I purchase circa 1984. They each lasted for more than 15 years. First impressions are that these 3 flossmates won't last a total of 5 years. Why? Because these seem to be made of a fairly brittle plastic. The earlier ones had a lot more flex and contained more nylon, vinyl, rubber, or something else that made it more flexible. Consequently, it gets three stars, and will go up if they last longer. I suspect that I'll be revising downward, as I don't have that much faith in them. These things were just about perfect. I realize that having something last for 15+ years doesn't create a lot of residuals. However, I think a good solution would be to charge 2x or 3x the price. Instead, the current versions or cheapened to the point that they won't last. This is like voting. I'll hold my nose and pull the lever, but know that this is a lousy product.2017-Feb Update: I'm down to two ... Surprised that one lasted a whole year - Surprised, but not impressed.3A sensible way to take care of your teeth I use these to floss at least once per day. I have 3 food traps between teeth where stuff always seem to collect. These are very handy to put into different bags so I usually have one with me. These aren't like those flimsy single use ones but they do take a good amount of floss to get securely anchored. I find that I have to pre-load the little forks with some pressure in order to get a good tight fit between the floss and the flosser. 5Wrong angle, too big, floss falls offI m really disappointed. These are bigger than I thought. Each one measures about 5 high. The width of the flossing area is about an inch. But the biggest problem is that it s angled wrong.I use the disposable floss harps all the time. The floss on the Flossmate is aligned at a 90 angle compared to the disposable kind, and it s a disaster. I am easily able to insert the disposable kind between my teeth and manipulate floss exactly how I want. The size and angle of the Flossmate left me tugging and cramming and having to use two hands. Plus the floss, even though it was tight enough (I followed the instructions to squeeze the tips together as one wraps the second time), kept getting pulled off the holder. If you re really happy with the disposable kind of flossers and are just looking for a less wasteful flosser, think twice. This one may not work for you.2
